Convention 105SC - 1st Convention - Online

Host Chair - PDG Lion David Firth

Welcome to the 1st 105SC District Convention

Whether you are a first timer, a regular attendee or a non-Lion guest, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our 2020 Online Convention. One could say that we are all first timers as this is the 1st ever Convention of District 105SC and the first Convention online.

It has been pleasing that whilst on our travels Heather and I have made many new friends with the clubs that joined with us to form 105SC. As is always the case every club is unique and do things slightly different, but they all have that underlying need to serve and care for those less fortunate in our communities both at home and abroad.

We must remember that we are part of the largest service organisation in the world. As has been proved over the last number of months where there is a disaster and a need there is a Lion. Never has this been more apparent than with the terrible devastation caused by the bush fires to our friends in Australia. Money was sent instantly from LCIF to assist, then money poured in from Lions clubs all over the world, which shows the amazing work that can happen when Lions band together in a common cause.

Sadly we can't meet together as we have in the past, but Lions will always find a way and this year we are asking you to join us from the safety of your home as we go digital!

Voting is a major part of the Business Session; voting on resolutions and selecting new leadership for 2020-21. To help us achieve this we have developed some software that will facilitate online voting. Full instructions on how to vote will be sent to Club Secretaries during this week. PDG Lion David Taylor and PDG Lion Roger Huntley will scrutinise voting as usual to ensure that everything is in order. The final results will be announced on Saturday, 11th April.

In the meantime please read through the reports, there will be an email address at the bottom of each report, please use it to ask the questions you would have asked from the floor. Your questions will be answered, the answers will be posted below the report so please check back regularly.

The 5 minute slots are back in a slightly different form. This is a chance for clubs to tell us all of the wondrous things they have got up to over the past 12 months - I'll be in touch with Club Secretaries and Presidents asking for audio or MP4s. They will appear on their own page which will be published at the end of the week.

Sadly we won't be able to enjoy Us-Two  and Rubix Cube live but here is a taste of their entertainment:

Us-Two

Finally I must thank Heather for putting up with me and supporting me in my many tasks and events for the District over the past 3 years and a Big Thank You to the Convention team who have worked extremely hard over the last 11 months to put on this great convention and the extra mile they have gone so the show can go on!

I hope you will enjoy this week, it's new to us all and so please bear with us. Please take part in the questions and if you are a delegate please make sure you use your vote.

Regards
